FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Procurement and quality questions, answered the way a supplier questionnaire asks them.

Common Questions

If a question below is not covered, it can be answered directly โ€” see the contact page.

What is checked before a CMM calibration request is accepted?

The instrument's measurement range, probe configuration and required accuracy are checked against the performing laboratory's accredited scope. Requests outside that scope are declined before scheduling, before any visit is arranged.

Does a calibration certificate include measurement uncertainty?

Yes. Certificates issued under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 state the reference standards used and the reported uncertainty for each parameter measured, not a single pass or fail line.

Can a CMM be calibrated without shutting down a full production shift?

Bridge and gantry machines are typically calibrated on-site during a scheduled window agreed in advance. Portable arms and gage sets are usually better suited to depot turnaround.

What happens if a CMM fails calibration?

Findings are documented on the report and a repair quotation is issued separately. Recalibration follows once the repair is complete and accepted.

Are gauge blocks and surface plates calibrated under the same visit as a CMM?

They can be, if scheduled together in advance. Surface plates require flatness mapping across a grid and are quoted separately from CMM calibration.

What recalibration interval applies to a CMM in daily production use?

Interval is set by usage pattern, environment and internal quality procedure, not a fixed default. The calibration report includes a written recommendation on interval.

Can a damaged CMM probe be repaired instead of replaced?

Minor probe faults are assessed for repair first. Past a certain wear point, replacement is the only option and that threshold is stated in the quotation.

Will a CMM part program work after a controller upgrade?

Not without revision. Programs are tied to the controller and software version in place when written, and an upgrade typically requires a program check or rebuild.

What is required to quote a CMM program for a new part?

The quotation requires a dimensioned drawing with GD&T callouts and the controller and software version on the target machine. Including a sample part speeds up probe path planning, though it is not required.
